Alum Colleen Smith’s Paintings in Forsyth, MO
MU School of Visual Studies Art on the Move presents
Art in Storefronts: Walk up exhibition of alumni Colleen Smith’s Paintings at Wyatts’ Forsyth Hardware, Forsyth, MO
Sunday, November 12 – Friday, December 15, 2023
Forsyth, MO – Colleen Smith, Assistant Professor of Fine Arts at Missouri Valley College, artist, and Mizzou alum, will present her work in the storefront of Wyatts’ Forsyth Hardware, 16239 US Hwy 160, Forsyth, MO, 65653. An Instagram live event with the artist will take place on November 18 at 2pm via @muartonthemove where she will present her work and be available for questions virtually.
Her exhibit, a part of the Art in Storefronts initiative, is a no-contact exhibition designed to connect artwork with communities throughout the state while reinvigorating commercial spaces affected by the economic downturn.
This exhibit is made possible by a University of Missouri program called Art on the Move (AOM) through the School of Visual Studies (SVS) in the College of Arts & Science. It provides real-life experiences for SVS students and alumni, providing hands-on professional career building opportunities by bringing their work to communities across the state of Missouri to share their art and their careers. AOM also plays an instrumental role in recruiting the next generation of SVS students.
This Art on the Move event is supported by a strategic partnership between MU’s School of Visual Studies, University of Missouri Extension, Taney County Extension, and local business owners Dan and Sheila Wyatt, Wyatts’ Forsyth Hardware.
The School of Visual Studies brings the academic resources of the University to communities across the state through collaborative engagements such as the Art on the Move Community Outreach Program that include MU students, faculty and alumni creating mutually beneficial learning outcomes with Missouri communities.
Established in 2017, the MU School of Visual Studies merges four disciplines: art, art history, film studies, and digital storytelling. This dynamic program aims to graduate future generations of outstanding critical thinkers, inventive problem solvers, and makers of conscientious, well-crafted art while preparing them for professional careers in the contemporary art world.
