Bio

My research focuses on the iconography of medieval seals, women, gender, and political identity in Ireland and Britain c. 1100-1400. Seals are small, wax impressions left attached to legal documents. They can include stylized depictions of the sigillant or other symbols that represent their power and authority. I am working on a book on women’s seals with a catalog of seals from collections in Ireland and Scotland. I have presented this research at the International Congress on Medieval Studies in Kalamazoo, MI and have submitted shorter projects on this material to the Medieval Feminist Forum and Eolas, the Journal of the American Society for Irish Medieval Studies.
