Bio

Audrey Florey is a Ph.D. student in Visual Studies under the advisement of Dr. Kristin Schwain. She studies nineteenth- and twentieth-century American art, focusing on visual and material culture, and museum studies and object-centered education. She received her M.A. in Art History & Archaeology in the Spring of 2020 at Mizzou. Audrey’s M.A. thesis, “Helen Torr: Navigating the Woman’s Experience in American Modernism,” contextualized the life and work of American modernist, Helen Torr, situating her in the historical and cultural milieu of the early twentieth-century American art world by examining the intersectionality of culture, gender, and the arts. Audrey also works avidly with local community partners. During her time here, she has partnered with The State Historical Society and the Boone County Historical Society to curate exhibitions on local artists and art practitioners. Before arriving in Columbia in 2018, Audrey worked as a Visual Arts educator, teaching painting and drawing.
