The University of Missouri’s George Caleb Bingham Gallery presents MFA candidate Lisa Franko’s solo thesis exhibition, “i saw the striped couch”. Through the translation of decorative objects between a variety of two-dimensional and three-dimensional spaces, the exhibition mimics the failure of consumable objects to function in their intended ways once they enter our homes. The exhibition represents both the falseness of consumer objects when they make the transition between the advertisement and the real object, and the failure of mass produced objects to truly represent our individual personalities.

Coming to MU from Ohio, Lisa Franko received a BFA and Art Education degree from the University of Toledo.  She is currently a candidate in Printmaking at the University of Missouri. Lisa has been awarded several national exhibition and residency opportunities including a stay at the Women’s Studio Workshop.
