The University of Missouri’s George Caleb Bingham Gallery presents MFA candidate Erin King’s solo thesis exhibition, Musica Universalis, a multi-sensory exhibition. It is comprised of experimental weavings and drawings paired with paper scroll music boxes, which the viewer is invited to interact with. In the center of the gallery, a recording of a choir emits the collective musical composition that is the basis for determining the marks in the weavings on piano parts-turned-looms.

Musica Universalis explores the Aristotelian concepts of holism and synergy - “the whole is greater than the sum of its parts” - utilizing the individual artworks as analogs for individuals within community. Themes also explored: the limitations of human experience and perception; the promise of glitch and failure within binary systems, technologies, and modes of thinking; and embracing flaws and uncertainty.

King received her BA in studio art as well as advertising and marketing communications from Webster University in 2012.
