Rae Stern Artist Lecture for "In Fugue"

-
101 Swallow Hall

Rae Stern will be speaking on her recent work in porcelain and paper entitled In Fugue. For In Fugue, Stern reached out to local Kansas City Holocaust survivors and, drawing on the survivors' personal photo collections, created porcelain lithophanes to depict daily scenes from pre-war life in European communities that were subsequently destroyed. By manipulating the translucent characteristics of porcelain and paper, and through the inventive use of digital technology, Stern's work evokes questions about the relationship between objects, memory, and time.

Rae Stern is an Israeli-American artist, researcher, and designer residing in New York City. Her work has been exhibited internationally and is included in the Eretz Israel Museum collection. She recently completed a year as a full time Visiting Artist at the Belgar Crane Yard Studios in Kansas City.
