Meet the Director
The School of Visual Studies at the University of Missouri is dedicated to fostering creativity, critical thinking, and cultural engagement through the power of visual expression. Our faculty are active artists and scholars whose mission is to empower students to become skilled visual communicators, innovative artists, and socially responsible practitioners who contribute to the enrichment of society.
We nurture creativity and encourage students to explore diverse visual mediums, techniques, and approaches to expand their artistic horizons and encourage collaboration across disciplines and engagement with the broader community, fostering connections between art, culture, and society.
We foster critical thinking skills by encouraging students to analyze, interpret, and respond to visual culture, while also questioning assumptions and challenging conventions.
We celebrate and embrace diversity in all its forms, recognizing that a variety of perspectives, backgrounds, and experiences enriches the creative process and contributes to a more inclusive and equitable society.
We promote lifelong learning by providing opportunities for professional development and growth, ensuring that our graduates are well-prepared for evolving careers in visual studies.
As the Director of the School of Visual Studies, I am committed to these principles. The School of Visual Studies at Mizzou aspires to be a leader in visual arts education, producing graduates who contribute to the cultural vitality, innovation, and social progress of Missouri and our global community.
