This exhibition, curated by friends of Joanne and Jerry Berneche and local arts leaders, Catherine Armbrust, Kelsey Hammond, and Hannah Reeves, features a selection from more than 300 works.
In her passing, local artist and arts educator Joanne Zucco Berneche (b. Feb 12, 1938 - Feb 3, 2023) leaves a legacy of stunning artwork, a lasting impact on her students, and a community made more vibrant through her generocity and spirit. Berneche was deeply involved with Columbia and the surrounding arts communities, she taught at Columbia Public Schools, Central Methodist University (Fayette, MO) William Woods University (Fulton, MO), Stephens College, and the University of Missouri. She was an early member of the Columbia Art League and held the title of president from 1979-1981. Joanne was proceded in death by her husband Jerry Berneche (d. 2016) who was also an artist and arts educator. Together the pair supported the arts by attending concerts and exhibitions, and donating artworks, supplies, and funds to many organizations.
