SVS Art Learning Objectives

Students who successfully complete a degree in Art will be able to:

  • Demonstrate broad and discipline-specific knowledge of art processes and art history.
  • Use creative materials to translate what is seen and experienced into ideas realized in finished artworks.
  • Develop the ability to conduct research, engage in critical analysis, and coordinate project planning as strategies to generate ideas for their art practice. 
  • Identify and cultivate a personal artistic voice through a rigorous and sustainable studio practice.  
  • Build thoughtful and thorough contexts to demonstrate how their art practice fits into contemporary art discourse. 
  • Explore the visual and conceptual metaphors in use within our cultural moment and develop connections to their own art practice. 
  • Create original art and projects by applying discipline-specific tools, skills, methods, and sources.
