Riso Room

We are excited to announce the official opening of THE RISO ROOM, a public-facing student-run risograph studio, experimental print laboratory, and reading room housed in the School of Visual Studies’ Fine Arts Building (Room A102).

THE RISO ROOM will be open throughout the semester with consulting and printing services for risograph projects, available to anyone interested in working with the technology to print an edition of printed goods.

Our current open hours are Thursday, 4-8pm. These hours will change from semester to semester, and will be posted up in the Fine Arts Building and to our Instagram as they develop.

RISOGRAPH BASICS will initiate participants to THE RISO ROOM and the basics of the risograph printing process, our MF9450U printer. Students in the course will learn how to generate materials to print from the scanner bed of the printer using drawing methods, image or material collage, and/or using pre-prepared printouts. On top of learning about the material qualities, technical potentials and limits of risography, everyone will work to make a collaborative body of printed materials and each participant will receive an edition of whatever is produced from the workshop. Our first workshop, Printing with Parameters, will introduce participants to the risograph duplicator, with a particular emphasis on experimental collage-based methods of image and text production. The intention is to pull from a history of generative constraints within the fields of art, literature, music, and poetry to encourage playful experimentation and chance-based encounters.

If you are interested in attending our first workshop, Printing with Parameters, you can follow the link to the Google sign-up form here. Upon confirmation of your sign-up, you can pay your fees here.
