Join us for the second Monica A. Hand Memorial Graduate Reading of the spring 2020 semester, featuring a creative reading from Carley Gomez, Heather Heckman-McKenna, and Micaela Bombard!

The reading will take place in George Caleb Bingham Gallery (MU Fine Arts Bldg, 505 Hitt St.) from 4:15 - 5:30 ish, then we'll continue to gather in the gallery for a reception until 6 p.m.

All are welcome!

CARLEY GOMEZ studies speculative fiction and border literature. Her creative work is concerned with multiplicity of identities and the intergenerational consequences of colonialism. Her fiction has appeared in Euphony, Passages North, Mid-American Review, and elsewhere. She has an MFA in Writing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and a BA in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona.

HEATHER HECKMAN-MCKENNA is a Ph.D. Candidate, Research Assistant, and Graduate Instructor at the University of Missouri, focusing on creative nonfiction and scholarship on women writers of the 18th- and 19th-centuries. She has previously been published in CutBank, Newfound, Eckleburg, and others. Heather’s work has been nominated for the Pushcart twice, her essay “Drive” earned Memoir Magazine’s Notable Essay designation in 2018, and another essay, “Tilt,” was awarded second prize in the Creative Writing Program Prize in Creative Nonfiction in 2018.

MICAELA BOMBARD is a poet interested in the poetics of embodiment and disability studies. Her work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and has appeared in Four Way Review, The Anthology of New England Writers, Health Affairs, DMQ Review, decomP MagazinE, and others. She holds an MFA in Poetry from Sarah Lawrence College and an MS in Narrative Medicine from Columbia University.
