Ian Meares: The Curse of Dimensionality

-
George Caleb Bingham Gallery

Artist Talk  (via Zoom): February 3, 2021 at 6:30pm CST

This show is going to be a collaboration b/w the artist and some of our Ceramic & 3D Design students! We can't wait to share this "directed work" with you.

Ian Meares works across the expanded fields of ceramics, sculpture and curatorial practices. He holds two graduate degrees; he is a 2017 graduate of the University of California Irvine with an MFA in Critical and Curatorial Studies with an Emphasis in Critical Theory; and a 2009 graduate of Pennsylvania State University with an MFA in Studio Practice with Concentrations in Ceramics and Sculpture.

His research interests as an artist, curator and reader reside in the variety of ways our plastic conceptions temper and permeate our politics, economics, and aesthetics — how these dynamics shape the myriad ways that materiality and modes of artistic expression in turn inform our agencies, and reflect our discourse. He exhibits and works internationally.

He has served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at The Ohio State University and Indiana University; and additionally as Artist in Residence, and Instructor at the University of Arkansas and held numerous other institutional appointments. He currently serves as a Teaching Assistant Professor at University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
