School of Visual Studies Visiting Artist: Danielle Yakle
Visit Bingham Gallery to see "House Still Standing" an exhibition by visiting artist Danielle Yakle on view Nov. 3-20 with a lecture on Nov. 12 at 4:30 p.m. followed by a reception.
A multimedia installation artist whose work often combines soft sculpture and found furniture, Yakle presents familiar objects in unfamiliar ways to explore the difficulty of fitting within established societal conventions. Her work focuses on themes of the home, aging, and hybridity. Yakle currently teaches at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri where she heads the Sculpture and Fiber Art areas. Her teaching interests center around the ability of art to celebrate and strengthen communities and her liberal arts classes frequently include building public art projects and staging children’s workshops.
This exhibition and lecture is supported by the Eric Sweet Memorial Fund.
