ABOUT THE ARTIST

Zach Nutt was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1991. He graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Nebraska at Omaha in 2015 and is currently a MFA candidate in painting here at the University of Missouri – Columbia. While attending the University he has taught art appreciation and drawing courses, been awarded the Dorothy Rollins Memorial Scholarship, has been active in student government, and has lead the Association of Graduate Art Students as President.

ARTIST STATEMENT FOR & The Dynamo

& The Dynamo is the graduating thesis exhibition of Zach Nutt, showing works created within the last year as he completes his Master of Fine Arts degree at the University of Missouri – Columbia. Through a mixture of referential and abstract imagery, the portrayal of landscape is recreated into a closer representation of how contemporary landscape is experienced, a shifting collage of areas of sharp focus and locations of opaque abstraction, confusing the experiential movement through space as it becomes segmented, distorted, and pieced back together in understandings that may or may not be correct. Through this exhibition systems of infrastructure are primarily dissected, searching for how the forms of electric substations, suburban housing, water treatment centers, and power plants all come together to create the landscape that is traversed each day.
