Nicole Shaver: Artist Talk / Artist Residency Q+A
Interdisciplinary artist Nicole Shaver will give a talk on her work, to be followed by a joint Q+A with MU Assistant Professor Fidencio Fifield-Perez on artist residencies. They will discuss how their experiances at artist residencies have informed their work, how they have sought out opportunities, and answer questions.
Nicole Shaver grew up along picturesque Lake Michigan in Wisconsin where she skipped rocks and watched fishermen gut salmon as a child. Largely inspired by geology and a contemporary sublime, her work catalogs imagined space between geographical sites and fantasy.
She received her BFA from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and her MA and MFA in Painting and Drawing from the University of Iowa. She has attended artist residencies in Colorado, Iceland, North Carolina, Ohio, and Wisconsin while exhibiting widely through the United States and Scandinavia. Her work has been featured on NPR’s All Things Considered and published in New American Paintings and Studio Visit Magazine. She currently manages Studio 224, a collective printmaking and photography space in Port Washington, Wisconsin.
