All students starting college in the Fall 2015 semester or later who wish to pursue a BA or BFA degree in art will need to pass the Art Department BA/BFA Portfolio Review. A student will need to have a 2.0 minimum GPA in all art courses at MU, and have completed six (6) courses in art before submitting a portfolio for either the BA or BFA. Those course are Art 1030 Basic 2D Design, Art 1040 Basic 3D Design, Art 1050 Beginning Drawing and then three of the following courses: Art 2100 Beginning Ceramics, Art 2200 Drawing 2, Art 2210 Beginning Color Drawing, Art 3230 Beginning Illustration, Art 3220 Anatomical Drawing, Art 2300 Beginning Fibers, Art 2410 Graphic Design I, Art 2500 Beginning Painting, Art 2510 Beginning Watercolor, Art 2600 Beginning Photography, Art 2700 Beginning Printmaking, Art 2800 Beginning Sculpture, Art 2820 Beginning Welding and Casting. (please note that you may be enrolled in the classes the semester you go through the portfolio review)
What needs to be included in the portfolio review?
Students wishing to apply to the BA or BFA portfolio review must submit a digital portfolio consisting of the following items.
A.) Seven (7) images of student work from specific projects in Art 1030 Basic 2D Design, Art 1040 Basic 3D Design, Art 1050 Beginning Drawing (see syllabi for specifics)
B.) Seven (7) images from work done in any of the following classes.
Art 1030 Basic 2D Design, Art 1040 Basic 3D Design, Art 1050 Beginning Drawing, Art 2100 Beginning Ceramics, Art 2200 Drawing 2, Art 2210 Beginning Color Drawing, Art 3230 Beginning Illustration, Art 3220 Anatomical Drawing, Art 2300 Beginning Fibers, Art 2410 Graphic Design I, Art 2500 Beginning Painting, Art 2510 Beginning Watercolor, Art 2600 Beginning Photography, Art 2700 Beginning Printmaking, Art 2800 Beginning Sculpture, Art 2820 Beginning Welding and Casting.
C.) Six (6) images from any work done either in or out of class. This work must have been created in the time since you have started college.
D.) an unofficial copy of your transcripts
E.) a written statement of intention

Major Program Requirements
Art majors earning a BA degree complete art foundations courses, art core requirements and art studio electives. No more than 40 credits in studio art may be included in the BA curriculum. Students enrolled in the BA degree program may not include art or art history courses with a grade of C-. BA students are required to take 9 credits in art history, and at least two art history courses must be numbered 2000 or above. The last two full semesters and at least 35 credits in courses numbered 3000 or above must be completed on the MU Campus. In addition students must complete all College of Arts and Sciences and University graduation requirements, including University general education.

Art Core Requirements
- ART 2500: Beginning Painting or ART 2510: Beginning Watercolor - 3 credit hours
- ART 2800: Beginning Sculpture - 3 credit hours
- ART 2100: Beginning Ceramics or ART 2300: Beginning Fibers - 3 credit hours
Art Studio Elective Courses
- 9-19 Credit hours

- ART 4970: Senior Seminar (Writing Intensive Capstone) - 3 credit hours
Art History Requirements
- 9 credit hours (including 6 credit hours in courses numbered 2000 and above)
